Grilled cheese is a lunch classic in our home. It’s also a meal I didn’t bother eating myself as a fried sandwich of wonder bread and kraft slices. It wasn’t until I discovered there was more to grilled cheese that I started to participate. There are so many ways to make this delightful meal. I’ve shared just one of our favorites.
Ingredients:
granny smith apple, sliced very thin
country bread, sliced
blend 6 ounces aged cheddar and English red leicester
fig spread (or blueberry preserves)
artisan ham, sliced
Assemble ingredients per photo above. With a large, sliced bread, we tend to treat each half of the sandwich as 1 serving.
Layer on the cheese.
Special blend of Hook’s 2-year Cheddar and English Red Leicester melted with sliced tart Green Apple and our Zesty Fig Spread on country bread.
Butter the (top) side of the bread. In a pan on the stovetop, melt 1 tablespoon unsalted butter over medium heat. Spread butter around the pan, and place sandwiches in the pan and cover. Fry approximately 5 minutes per side, or until the side turns a crisp gold.
Cut each sandwich in half for serving. These are wonderful with tomato soup in which to dip the sandwiches. Enjoy!
