Breakfast Nook
We have an island in our kitchen that can seat the four of us. It’s really sad how infrequently we end up sitting at the table that sits next to our kitchen, where we would all face eachother to chat. The truth is, this table is typically covered in someone’s project, whether it’s a puzzle or homework or art. We also have a formal dining room that we mainly use for holidays and when others come over.
The above is the picture of the breakfast nook from the real estate listing at the time of our purchase. I wanted to change out the lighting fixture, and have gone through several rounds of fixtures in 7 years. I knew I didn’t want a rug when we moved in and our kids were little, though that may change in the future.
This is our current “After”. We have a hand me down table here from my in-laws, but I’ve switched out the chairs for something brighter when I realized ALL our furniture seems to be brown! I like our current pendant, though it doesn’t provide great lighting for homework and projects. If I could change something, I would have mounted the curtains higher (to the molding) in this room and bought longer curtains, so that will be a modification in the future. We have a magnified chalkboard against the side wall. This is super family friendly for writing poems and messages that the kids contribute to, and for our holiday Christmas card collection, though it can be a little “loud” on the eyes. We painted much of our home in Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter when we moved in. I still like the color, though may go for more of a cool tone when we are due again to paint in the future. This space is open to our living room and kitchen, and when we modified our living room, we extended the crown molding to this space.
