I’ve accepted the fact that my family can be classified as television bums at times. Our house was set up so that the living room television outlet was above the corner fireplace. I know a lot of families are comfortable with this arrangement, but we like our prime television to be at eye level as we are sitting, so we don’t need to crane our necks to watch Schitt’s Creek.
The above is the photo from the real estate listing when we purchased, “the Before”. I knew we wouldn’t be angling our furniture around the corner television when we moved in, but also that we’d need to make some changes to the room to have it set up in a way that was necessary for our family’s purposes.
I sketched out a rough drawing for a wall of cabinetry that could accommodate the television, some storage, and some display items. I had a more formalized version when I supplied my millwork contractor with bidding materials (that may have not survived a subsequent house clean out).
This is how the cabinetry turned out. I just love how it transformed our ability to use the space. And the television is just at eye level for our neck’s enjoyment on long tv binges! Our millwork contractor also installed some crown molding.
This is our “After”….so far. I’m in the process of hunting down a light colored sectional and shifting furniture around in the rooms. What won’t change is the pretty chandelier fixture we installed here or the marble coffee table from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams that fits right under it.
